The God Who is Just (Part III)

The themes of judgment and salvation in the book of Micah ultimately fall against the backdrop of God’s covenant faithfulness to Israel. God’s covenant love is much more than a simple feeling or a disposition of kindness; it is a unique love set upon Israel as a result of God’s loyalty to the covenant He made with Abraham. He not only promises to bless Israel’s obedience, but to confront and judge the evil of His people in their disobedience. Yet this portrayal of justice is ultimately what leads to hope, because we see that God’s greater purposes are not to condemn and destroy, but to redeem and restore.
