The God Who Comforts - Part III

The third chapter of the book of Nahum contains the prophet's final oracles of judgment against Nineveh, whose wound is deemed incurable. God's judgment will be harsh and exacting in every way imaginable, as they will find no relief to their destruction. Yet ultimately, Nineveh provides a foretaste of the final judgment that is to come. At the end of all days, all the earth will be judged and the wicked will be consumed in wrath. Just like Nineveh, men will seek to hide from it, defend themselves in every way possible, and plead even for relief, yet all these things will be in vain. The certainty of this reality is something all men need to grapple with, so they may flee now from the wrath that is to come.
