The Portrait of a Persecuted Preacher

Luke closes out the ministry of John. The purpose of the passage is to show how much greater Jesus is. Everything John did was to deflect attention from himself, and shine it onto the coming Messiah. This is a compelling passage, as it not only carries the narrative of Luke forward, but it also reveals a wonderful model of faithful preaching. We see five marks of faithful, Gospel-centered, Christ-exalting preaching that any minister and disciple of Christ ought to model.
