The Divine Announcement

The angel, Gabriel, now comes to Mary and makes the divine announcement that she will bear the Christ. Gabriel describes Who this Christ is, and what He has come to accomplish. He will save His people, and reign as the everlasting king. At a cosmic level, this passage depicts God as utterly faithful to His promise through Jesus Christ. At a personal level, we're given a portrait of immense faith in Mary. She is held up as a model disciple, who elicits the ideal response to the good news concerning Jesus Christ - faith.
