After Darkness, Light

This final passage of chapter one is significant for Luke. Zacharias rejoices over the coming New Covenant, which causes him to reflect on God's past faithfulness to previous covenants of deliverance. He then declares over John what his role will be in redemptive history. He will be a preacher of Light, pointing people to the Light - Jesus Christ. It is a significant meditation for all Christians, as the passage helps us realize we're all modern day prophets, saved to serve God by declaring the redemption of God found in Jesus Christ.
